Capheny and Bijan get a real shot in the arm
The July 22 patch is light on hero count but does some focused work. Seven buffs and three nerfs, with the nerfs landing on heroes who were genuinely over-tuned. No system changes this time, just balance work.
Capheny comes out of this patch looking noticeably better. The self-slow that punished her for firing her cannon was a real quality-of-life problem -- it made chasing and repositioning awkward at the worst moments. Reducing that slow at higher ranks, combined with a base damage bump on Fusillade, gives her more room to play aggressively. She was already showing up in multiple S-tier lists, and this will cement that.
Bijan gets a damage overhaul across both Skill 1 and Skill 2. The area damage on Sand Strike goes from 190 to 240 at base, which is a significant early number. He was sitting in S+ on two sources before this patch dropped, and the late-game scaling fixes should make him harder to outgrow past the 15-minute mark. Worth picking up if you haven't already.
Ormarr and Diao Chan: sleepers that got woken up
Ormarr has been awkward for a long time. The old Skill 1 only went on cooldown after you landed an enhanced attack, which made the timing feel clunky and punished early mistakes. Now the cooldown triggers on skill use itself, and the enhancement window stretches from 3 to 4 seconds. The new movement buff during his ultimate is the cherry on top -- Ormarr players will find it much easier to stay in range through a full fight.
Diao Chan is the one I'm most curious about. Her Passive now reduces attack speed by up to 50% at max stacks, up from 34%. That's a massive slow for anyone attacking into her, and paired with Chilling Frost losing 0.5 seconds off its cooldown, her overall disruption output is genuinely scary. She's been sitting in A tier across most lists, but if this passive stacks fast enough in practice, she could climb.
Brunhilda got two changes that together shift her from a late-game one-trick to a more consistent presence: the Entrench cooldown drops from 26 to 22 seconds at rank 1, and the Redeploy scaling improves at higher levels. She was already S tier on Zathong. The CDR change alone bumps her ult from something you use once a teamfight to something you can throw out more freely.
Bright and Biron both get small but real improvements. Bright's Skill 2 attack speed buff triples at rank 1 (25% to 75%), which changes how his early laning feels completely. Biron just gets cooldown scaling on Shatter Blade, nothing flashy, but it adds up in longer skirmishes.
The nerfs: Aya, Y'bneth, and Moren
Aya had shields that were too forgiving for a support who can possess her carry and effectively play two heroes at once. Cutting both the base and possession shield values brings her more in line with what that kind of kit should cost. She's still strong -- the possession mechanic alone is a nightmare to play against -- but the free tankiness is gone.
Y'bneth's ultimate regen drops from 2% to 1.5% max HP per tick. That doesn't sound like a lot until you remember he was already hard to kill even before the regen activated. The shield rebalance (1000 + 500/Lv instead of 800 + 800/Lv) means higher base but lower ceiling, giving opponents more of a window to kill him before he snowballs the regen value.
Moren is the clearest case: his ultimate went from a 40-second cooldown to 45. That's one more fight where he can't just press R and lock someone down. He's been sitting on most tier lists as mid-range, not dominant, but the ult was making him oppressive in the right hands.
What this means for the meta
The meta core stays largely the same -- Hayate, Butterfly, Keera at the top, the usual suspects. What shifts is the second tier. Capheny and Bijan move up meaningfully, and Brunhilda gets even harder to justify leaving off your pick list. On the nerf side, Aya is still a strong pick but you can no longer rely on the shield to absorb everything. Moren drops a slot or two in jungle rankings.
If you're climbing ranked this week, the fast-track plays are Bijan jungle and Capheny in the slayer lane. Both got buffed, both were already viable, and both benefit from opponents not yet adjusting.
